Faith Deering will present a slide lecture on the fascinating topic of the silk industry during the mid-19th century in the Connecticut River Valley. With slides, live silkworms and beautiful silken textiles, Deering will illuminate the story of silk thread and the beautiful dyes that have made the shimmering cloth so desirable for centuries. Her own experience of raising silkworms as well as reeling and dyeing cocoons will bring an ancient art into the present.
